We are not at all surprised about the sudden popularity of this series of games, since it is reminiscent of many flash games we used to love playing ourselves, although it uses HTML5 technology, has a retro vibe that is seen in the gameplay, the animation, and the art of the game, and it has been inspired by classic hits such as Dance Dance Revolution or PaRappa the Rapper, but creating something new and fresh at the same time!

If you consider yourself the type of guy or gal who has rhythm in your veins, can dance to the tune of any song, and play music without a hitch to create the biggest show ever, then playing FNF Games online is for you! It’s a series of games with music and dancing at its core, and these are things that both children and adults can enjoy a whole lot, and we’re sure they will if they play any of the content this page has to offer!

If reading this article and being on this page is your first time hearing about FNF and all the awesomeness it has to offer, allow us to go into more detail about the world of the games, the gameplay of them, and various other fun facts and trivia, as we want to use this page to help those who are not yet convinced to play these music games to give them a chance right away and have fun as they’ve never had before!

How to play Friday Night Funkin’ Games free

The game is divided into several mini-games, each one being released in a different week, and in each week you, the player, have to fight another antagonist in order to win, and then keep going on. The battles are fights in music, as the player needs to hit the patterns of notes at the correct times, using either the arrow keys or the W, A, S, D keys. When the symbols match the notes, press the corresponding keys at that time to hit the notes perfectly.

At the bottom of the screen, there is a bar which is divided into green and red, the green part for the players and the red one for the computers. When the player hits the correct notes, the green bar grows bigger, and you have to keep on doing so until the bar is fully green, without letting the computer hit the notes while you miss because if the bar gets completely red, you are the one that loses.

The players can choose if they want to play in the easy, medium, or hard levels of difficulty, and the more they increase the difficulty settings, the songs get faster, and the patterns they have to hit are going to be more complicated. You can choose to play the Story Mode, where you go through the whole story, see the character’s reaction and dialogues, and there are various cutscenes between the fights, or you can play the Free Play Mode, where you just battles on the songs you choose.

The story of FNF, week by week

The main story of the game series follows Boyfriend, which is usually the character that you embody, who has to win singing and rapping contests against various enemies because that is the only way that he will be able to impress and date his Girlfriend, the woman he loves. Each new week, all sorts of new antagonists appear that want to stop Boyfriend from dating Girlfriend, but if you give it your best to win the competitions against them, the two will finally be together!

Week 1 is called Daddy Dearest, which is also the name of the antagonist you face off with. He is a former rockstar and the father of Girlfriend, and he disapproves of Boyfriend dating his daughter, so you have to impress him with your music skills. "Bopeebo", "Fresh", and "Dad Battle" are the three songs featured in the first week.

Week 2, called Spooky Month, features Pump and Skid, who are trying to kidnap GF from her house in order to bring her to Monster, which is the foe that BF has to fight to rescue his loved one from. For this week you’ve got two main songs called "South" and "Spookeez".

We continue with Week 3 (Pico), which features the "Pico", "Philly Nice", and "Blammed" songs, where Pico is a hitman hired by Daddy Dearest to take out Boyfriend, but after realizing that the two of them know each other, Pico will challenge him at a rap battle, so as not to kill his friend.

Week 4 introduces The Mom, who is GF’s mother, of course, with their musical battle taking place on the rooftop of limousines where there are dancing devils all around them. "Satin Panties", "High", and "M.I.L.F" are the three main songs in the competition.

For the following week, Week 5, also called Red Snow, the setting is a shopping mall during the Christmas holidays, where Boyfriend will face off with Girlfriend’s both parents after they have taken Santa hostage and are holding him at gunpoint. The awesome songs of the week are "Cocoa", "Eggnog", and "Winter Horrorland".

The latest week featured in the series at the moment of this writing is Week 6, otherwise known as Hating Simulator, and which features the songs called "Senpai", "Roses", and "Thorns". This game features both Girlfriend and Boyfriend, who have been sucked into a dating simulator game where they both have to fight the character known as Senpai.

In addition to the main entries in the series, we are proud to say that we can also offer you lots of various and awesome Friday Night Funkin’ Mods for free, which are fan-made games not made by the original team, with many of them featuring characters in other Newgrounds series, or even mainstream media. For example, you can face off with Sonic the Hedgehog, Hatsune Miku, Tord, Matt from WiiSports, Tankman, Ronald McDonald, and many more!

The most popular FNF characters

Boyfriend is a young boy who has light skin and cyan hair, who is seen wearing a white shirt with a red symbol on it, blue baggy pants, red sneakers, and a blue-and-red cap worn backward. He loves eating pizza, loves music of all genres, and aside from lightning strikes, he is fearless, which comes from a combination of being reckless and overconfident!

Of course, we then have the main character’s love interest, and that is Girlfriend, who you can usually see sitting on top of some speakers, where she is bopping her head right and left while counting the combos and cheering Boyfriend on, as he is fighting for her. She has long auburn hair, wears a sleeveless red dress with red high-heels, and her favorite drink is Cherry Dr. Pepper. She is 19, is scared of thunder and lightning, loves to play Tetris, and her favorite type of pizza is one that has olives on it.

Of course, the series biggest antagonists and most iconic ones are always going to be Girlfriend’s parents, Daddy Dearest, an ex-rockstar who somehow looks like the devil, and he has a conflict with all sorts of other characters in the series, and there’s his wife as well, Mommy Mearest, a demonic-looking woman whose favorite soda is White Claw. They will never accept Boyfriend and their daughter to be together, and they will do anything in their power to stop them from being a couple!

What is Newgrounds? Who created Friday Night Funkin’ online?

Newgrounds is a website that first came around in 1995, around the first years when the internet started to pop off, and it is a great platform where users can add content that they have usually created themselves, such as flash games and now html5 games, music, cartoons, and various other animated projects, and despite not being as popular as it was in its hey-day, with a series as FNF it has proven its relevancy still!

Four users from Newgrounds have created this game, and they are known as Ninjamuffin99, Phantom Arcade, evilsk8r, and Kawai Sprite, who first presented the demo of FNF at a contest of video games, and after it was received well, they built upon the original and developed the games you now know and love so much. The game exploded soon after its release, and it became popular on social media as well, bringing in even more players.

The awesome thing about the games is that they are open-source, meaning that everyone can modify them if they have the abilities, and the various mods have only increased the popularity of the series, with there being plans of turning the games into a full-fledged video game, and you can support that by donating to their Kickstarted campaign which will be starting soon!
