Previously Darth Vader made an appearance during the final mission of Fallen Order, coming across Cal Kestis and Cere Junda shortly after the protagonist defeats Trilla Suduri in battle. Unhappy with her failure to eliminate Kestis as a threat, Vader executes Trilla, angering Cere and causing her to chase after Vader. The protagonist finally catches up to Cere only to find her being overpowered by the Sith Lord. Unable to do anything, Cal opts to make an escape and is successful.

The ending of Fallen Order left fans in suspense as they could not fight the main antagonist of the series and left them wondering if the Sith Lord would make an appearance in Survivor.

After the Mantis’ crew is betrayed by Bode Akuna, the game takes players to Jedha, where the Empire tries to destroy the Jedi archives to eliminate what remains of the Jedi Order once and for all. The entire fight against Darth Vader takes place in the Archives on Jedha when Darth Vader tries to stop Cere from wanting revenge for the events of the Fallen Order. The end of this cutscene commences the battle with Darth Vader.
