Boise residents told to compost Christmas trees; other cities offer free removal

The City of Boise will not pick up your Christmas tree this season.

Cities around the Treasure Valley have announced their tree recycling programs. Meridian provides free tree removal. Place it on your curb on your regular trash service day.

Make sure to remove any decorations, and if your tree is taller than six feet tall, it must be cut to four feet lengths and bundled together. This service runs from Jan. 2 through 6.

Eagle is providing the same service, and similar rules apply. Their tree removal program runs from Dec. 26 through Jan. 6.

Nampa residents can drop off Christmas Trees at the Kohlerlawn Cemetery from Dec. 26 through Jan. 15. Trees can be dropped off Monday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 76 6th St. North. Follow the directional signs on Weamer Lane for the drop-off location.

Caldwell has a tree collection site at the corner of Arthur and S. 22nd Ave. behind Caldwell Bowl. Residents can drop off trees through Jan. 15.

The City of Boise tells CBS2 that residents can cut up their tree and place it in their compost bins. If they do not fit, or you do not have access to a compost bin, you can take the tree to the landfill for free through Jan. 2. Whole trees left on the curb or alley will not be picked up.
